Course 1: Power Industry & Electrical Foundations
Start your training by learning core concepts like applied construction math, electrical theory (including Ohm’s Law), and blueprint reading. You’ll also learn how to correctly use protective equipment and practice grounding techniques to help promote safety on the job site. The course includes preparation for the OSHA 10-hour safety certification.
Course 2: Utility Climbing Techniques
Practice choosing the right equipment for different job types and safely ascending and descending structures over 32 feet high. This course also covers how to safely navigate obstacles at height and perform pole-top rescues both with and without a cross arm. Basic First Aid and CPR training are included in this course.
Course 3: Power Line Equipment & Field Operations
Get hands-on experience with aerial framing, pole setting, rigging, and tool selection. You’ll also practice trenching, operating basic excavation equipment, and tying the kinds of knots commonly used in rigging work.

About Centura
Founded in 1969, Centura College specializes in preparing graduates for a wide variety of career opportunities. There are three Centura campuses in the Tidewater Virginia area, located in Chesapeake, Newport News and Norfolk.
The Electrical Lineworker program is offered at Centura’s Norfolk campus, which features a 24,000-square-foot facility with specialized labs and classes for hands-on training. Not all programs available at all locations.
